Internships & Volunteering BONELA is currently inviting applications for ONE individual who is living openly with HIV for a short-term intern position as Training and Advocacy Intern. Please refer to the Opportunities section of this page for more details. Please note that BONELA may only host interns and volunteers who can commit to a minimum of a three-month term.
Internships With the support of NACA, BONELA is hosting a limited number of five-month internships in 2006 with the aim of building capacity among active community members in Botswana. Currently, three interns are working on projects under the Media (HIV, Human Rights and People Living with Disabilities), Training and Advocacy Programmes. As positions become available, details will be posted below. For each of the past few years, BONELA has hosted a Canadian intern for a six-month period with the support of Human Rights Internet, an NGO working on human rights issues based in Ottawa, Canada. Past interns have worked on developing training materials and BONELA’s media campaign. BONELA’s Internship Programme involves orientation and training in the assigned area as well as interactive feedback. Interns receive a modest honorarium.
Volunteering Locally and internationally, volunteers have been an essential part of developing many of BONELA’s initiatives. From time to time, we host more typical volunteer positions in our Gaborone offices to assist full-time or part-time with research, programmes and administration. But more commonly, individuals generously contribute certain skills and/or time to specific BONELA projects. For example, a number of lawyers have provided legal advice and take on cases pro bono. Healthcare professionals have donated their expertise on HIV-related topics and serve as resource people. Volunteers have also been an integral part of the media campaign, including contributing their professional photography skills, acting as models for the poster photo shoots and as voice artists for the radio jingles, and working on design and production. BONELA receives countless requests from individuals who would like to assist on a voluntary basis. Because of the size and resources of the organisation, we are only able to accept a limited number of in-office volunteers who can make a specific contribution to a current BONELA project or programme. Should you be interested in volunteering with us, please send an updated CV; and, a cover letter indicating your motivation and to which specific BONELA programme area or project you believe your skills would contribute.
