Programme Officer
The Botswana Network on Ethics, Law and HIV/AIDS (BONELA) seeks to recruit a Programme Officer to coordinate and implement the BONELA HIV/STD prevention programme for sexual minorities. The contract is for 2 years, renewable. The Programme Officer will be based at the BONELA Secretariat in Gaborone. The Botswana Network on Ethics, Law and HIV/AIDS is a non-governmental organisation working on the ethical, legal and human rights dimensions of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Botswana.
The programme officer will be responsible for:
- Initiating and developing an HIV, STI and AIDS programme specifically targeting sexual minorities;
- Managing and facilitating programme implementation;
- Coordinating the monitoring and evaluation component of the programme; and,
- Liaising with other programme officers and the Director to ensure linkage and cohesiveness of all programme goals in relation to each other.
Skills and Requirements
The project coordinator must have the following
- University degree in Social Science, Sociology, Public Health, Law or other related discipline; a Masters degree would be an advantage;
- Knowledge and experience in the field of developing and executing HIV/STD/AIDS programmes, preferably in collaboration with the target group (sexual minorities).
- Good writing and analytical skills; ability to put theory into practice;
- Programme coordination skills;
- Ability to network and organise events and activities;
- Good knowledge and experience of the HIV/AIDS and human rights in the Botswana context;
- Experience working in the government and NGO sector would be an advantage;
- Available to carry out full-time employment within the contract period;
- Professional manner and good people skills;
- Computer literacy, excellent written and spoken communication skills (English and Setswana);
- Strong organisational skills, high level if independence and flexibility; and,
- Experience in community advocacy.
