The Botswana Network on Ethics, Law and HIV/AIDS (BONELA) is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of DIRECTOR. This position entails the following:
Management of a growing HIV and human rights organization, including financial and human resource management.
Timely and adequate reporting to the BONELA board, funding agencies and other national and international stakeholders.
Providing guidance and vision to the operations and future development of BONELA, including the implementation of the BONELA strategic plan 2007-2012.
Actively engaging in building and fostering the Botswana civil society movement.
Fostering and guiding current donor relations and identifying and establishing new partnerships to ensure financial sustainability of BONELA.
Actively engaging in national and international policy debate, including active and meaningful representation at national, regional and international policy fora, conferences and advocacy meetings to guide national processes in mainstreaming a human rights based approach to HIV.
Actively identifying new opportunities for BONELA’s engagement at national and international level.
Promoting and encouraging community- and activist-driven research on HIV and human rights issues and documentation of best practices in Botswana.
Mentoring, supporting and capacitating BONELA staff to ensure effective programme implementation and professional and personal growth.
Requirements:
A Masters Degree in Social Science, preferably in Developments Studies, Political Science, Public Health or Law or any other relevant social science discipline.
At least 5 years experience in managing a similar civil society organization, preferably in the Southern Africa region.
Strong interest and background on the inter-linkages between human rights and HIV and a proven commitment to the use of a human rights based approach in the response to social problems and to HIV in particular.
Excellent human resource and financial management skills.
Proven track record of ability to mobilize resources.
Ability to engage with a diversity of stakeholders in government, development partners, civil society and the international donor community.
Understanding of international policy debates and capacity to engage at various policy fora, including the presentation of policy positions and scientific papers.
Ability to edit complex documents and to critically analyse situations and documents.
Advanced understanding of Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting approaches will be an advantage.
